Today Iberia launches its Christmas campaign with an advertisement that avoids a commercial approach and instead focuses on a social experiment faced by four passengers, who must choose between an all-expenses-paid trip to their dream destination or travelling home for Christmas to be with their families.
To carry out this experiment, Iberia sought out four real travellers with a return ticket home this Christmas. This is the case of Manuel, a Sevillian who has been living in Peru for eight years, and Pierina, a Peruvian who came to study and work in Madrid and has not seen her family for three years.
Upon arriving at the check-in counter, Iberia ground staff presented them with the following dilemma: board the flight that will take them home or take the trip they have always dreamed of.
The moments of doubt and excitement are followed in real-time by their families and friends, who watch the scene with a mixture of nervousness, excitement and joy. The ending of the advert reveals that, at Christmas, the most desired destination is always home.
The full spot can be seen at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdzn3yh9QjU, as well as on TV, movie theatres and Iberia's social media profiles.
The campaign is part of Iberia's aim to generate prosperity by connecting people around the world, a connection that at Christmas reinforces the most emotional facet, as it is a particularly family-oriented time of year.
Giant boarding passes on the streets
As part of this campaign, las week, Iberia surprised passers-by with giant boarding passes on the front of several buildings in Spain, showing the names of the owners of these homes or their relatives, symbolising the return flight home of these people for Christmas.
One of these buildings was the house of the grandmother of travel influencer Daniel Illescas, in Castellón de la Plana, who woke up last Thursday to see one of these boarding passes.
In addition to Castellón de la Plana, towns such as Valladolid, Colmenar del Arroyo and Penagos in Cantabria have also been the setting for this campaign prior to the launch of the advertisement.
