Eduardo Kent has worked as an Account, Trade and Corporate executive for Iberia in Buenos Aires since 2012. He was previously part of the British Airways team, also in Buenos Aires, so there is nobody better to go to for tips when visiting the capital of Argentina.
The best places to visit: The restored part of the old port of Buenos Aires, now called Puerto Madero, with its unmistakable 19th-century English style, offers a beautiful view of the harbour, surrounded by restaurants and bars. San Telmo is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires, and has retained its cobbled streets and bars with a markedly colonial style.
Shopping: Santa Fe Avenue and Florida Street are Buenos Aires’s traditional shopping spots. The latter is pedestrianised as are the Pacific Galleries, which were inspired by the great European galleries.
To eat: One of the best things Argentina offers is its meat, and, in the Palermo neighbourhood, award-winning La Cabrera grill is highly recommended for those seeking an excellent ‘Argentine roast’.
If you are traveling with family: An hour by train from the centre is the municipality of Tigre, a place surrounded by the Río de la Plata, which you can sail on, and where handicrafts are sold. There is also a casino, amusement park and art museum.
You can’t miss: The Teatro Colón is considered by many critics and musicians to be the best opera house in the world, and has just turned 111. In addition to watching opera, you can take a guided tour of its interior.
