Iberia and the Royal Spanish Football Federation today signed an agreement making Iberia the federation’s official airline through 2026, carrying both men’s and women’s national sides to international competitions.
The deal was signed in Madrid by Federation President Luis Rubiales and Iberia Executive Chairman Javier Sánchez-Prieto.
Luis Rubiales thanked Iberia for its “bet” on the Spanish national football teams, in a period he described as “important” for Spanish football, since the federation is bidding to host the FIFA World Cup in 2030. He noted that Iberia and the national teams had the same colours, and that both are important components of “Brand Spain”. “You have a system of values from which we can learn a lot,” he said, adding, “We have approached each day of the four years since we came to the federation as if it were the first day, in difficult times. Now
our energies have been renewed, and we are proud that Iberia wants to stand by our side.”
Sánchez-Prieto replied that “we are proud that once again you are putting your trust in us to fly the national teams where they need to go, which underlines our role as unofficial “ambassadors of Brand Spain”, and above all because we’ll be able to carry the dreams of our entire nation to the different competitions. This year we’ll have the Women’s European Cup in England, followed by the men’s World Cup in Qatar. The efforts and the drive of both teams are an example for all Iberia employees, who are encouraged to regard ever day as day one.”
With Iberia to the Qatar World Cup
As official carrier, Iberia will stage charter flights and offer discounts and other benefits to players and coaching staff.
It will fly the women’s national team to the UEFA European Cup tourney to be held in England from 6-31 July.
The men’s team will fly with Iberia to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup competition taking place from 21 November to 18 December.
Iberia's more that 100 Initiative to Show off Spanish Talent
The football agreement comes within the framework of Iberia’s Talento a Bordo programme, aimed at publicising Spanish sport, art, music, dance, literature, gastronomy, design, and R&D.
It has staged more than 100 initiatives, in keeping with the programme’s slogan “From Spain, we generate prosperity by connecting people with the world.” It is focused chiefly on Spanish-speaking markets, and on publicising both well-known and emerging talents.
Last week the airline presented its “Talent Team” in Paris, The team is formed by 12 Spanish Olympians and Paralympian athletes, which are being supported by Iberia in their preparation for the next Olympic Games.
