Iberia will attend the South Summit Mexico meeting in search of talent and innovations amongst the startups being presented there, with a view to accelerating its current company-wide digital transformation programme, to the benefit of customers and staff.
Iberia’s Transformation Programme Manager, Gabriel Perdiguero, said “We have high hopes for this meeting. The Latin American entrepreneurial ecosystem is now really cooking and we hope to learn about great ideas that can improve our customers’ experience, as well as that of our employees, and our entire business.”
On 3-4 December South Summit will be held in Mexico City, providing a venue where innovative entrepreneurs and investors can meet, make deals, develop platforms for cooperation, and speed business projects.
Attending South Summit Mexico will be 40 finalist start-ups, a number of them working in areas of interest to Iberia.
María Benjumea, whose Spain Startup company launched the annual South Summit event in Spain in 2012, said “we are very excited to be holding a South Summit in Mexico. We want it to be a great meeting focusing on innovation and business development for startups, investors, and corporations.”
An Iberia executive will serve on the jury selecting the best projects, and Iberia will also engage in one-on-one meetings, participate in panel discussions, and in general take an active part in the event.
Hangar 51
Iberia’s participation in South Summit Mexico stems from its IAG parent group’s sponsorship of “Hangar 51”, an annual 10-week “accelerator” launched in 2016, in which a selection of startups could trial their products at scale under the mentorship of IAG Group managers and subject matter experts, with the aim of accelerating innovation.
In May Iberia took part in South Summit Madrid, and at the 2017 edition of Hangar 51 it initiated cooperation with such startups as volantio in reservations management, Destygo in developing a chatbot, and Inflight VR in offering a number of virtual reality services.
10% Discounts for Participants

The offer applies to tickets from Europe to Mexico for flights between 26 November and 11 December.
