Iberia will add an extra frequency between Madrid and Tokyo during March and April, coinciding with the sakura season, the cherry blossom period, one of the most anticipated and emblematic moments of the year in Japan. This additional flight will be available from March 4 to April 29, departing Madrid on Wednesdays and returning from Tokyo on Thursdays. Currently, Iberia operates three weekly frequencies between Madrid and Tokyo, which will be complemented by this special operation, reaching four flights per direction each week.

With this special operation, Iberia responds to the growing interest in Japan as a tourist destination and reinforces its commitment to the Japanese market, where it landed in October 2024. This new frequency represents an increase of more than 6,000 seats between Spain and Japan. In total, in 2026, Iberia will offer over 114,000 seats on this route, contributing nearly €100 million to the GDP of Spain and Japan and generating around 1,900 direct and indirect jobs, consolidating this connection as a strategic bridge between Europe and Asia.
An Experience Tailored for Japanese Travelers
This route between the two capitals is operated with Airbus A350 aircraft, the most modern and efficient model in Iberia’s fleet, with capacity for 348 passengers in Business, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins. In addition, the Spanish airline has adapted the onboard experience for Japanese travellers, including menus in Japanese, entertainment in their language, and details such as green tea, rice, and chopsticks.
