Iberia to Fly to the Azores this Summer

Anticipating a recovery in holiday travel this summer, Iberia is adding frequencies on many routes, resuming service to many former sun and sand destinations, and even adding new ones, including the Maldives in the Indian Ocean, Ljubljana in Slovenia, and the Portuguese Azores islands in the Atlantic.

Iberia’s social media followers clamoured for the Azores and Ljubljana when asked to choose a new summer destination.

On 2 June the Azores capital Ponta Delgada will become Iberia’s 114th destination. It will fly there from Madrid twice a week in July and August.

Portugal, a Major Iberia Holiday Focus this Summer

In the summer of 2021 Iberia will fly to a total of six Portuguese cities, three on the mainland and three in the country’s Atlantic island archipelagos.

  • Lisbon – Iberia now operates 14 return flights a week to the Portuguese capital, but will raise the number to 22 from June through September.
  • Oporto – Now served by seven weekly Iberia flights, the number will rise to 11 in June, and to 14 from July through October.
  • Funchal – Flights to the capital of Madeira will begin on 2 June with three per week, and this frequency will be increased to five per week in July, August, and September, for a summer total of some 18,400 available seats.
  • Faro – Iberia Regional / Air Nostrum will fly to Faro or Portugal’s southern coast starting on 4 June, with three flights per week, raising this to five times per week in July. A total of 15,600 seats will be offered during the summer.
  • Porto Santo – Iberia will operate charter flights to this tiny island north of Madeira from Lisbon and Oporto, sold by the Viajes Abreu travel agency starting on 6 June. There will be one flight every Sunday until 10 October.
  • Azores Iberia will operate two return flights per week to the islands this summer, starting on 3 July.
