Iberia Will Operate 72% of Flights on Friday as Madrid Airport Struggles with Snow and Ice

Nevada 06
  • Snow and ice remaining on the ramp and aircraft parking areas of Madrid airport is obliging Iberia to limit Friday’s flight programme.
  • Iberia will operate 90% of its long-haul flights from Madrid and 70% of its short- and medium-haul flights, including those of Iberia Express and Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum.
  • Customers have been notified of the cancelled flights and Iberia is helping them find alternative flights. Customers affected by these cancellations are advised not to go to airport, but rather to contact their travel agent or visit the “Manage Your Booking” section of www.iberia.com, where you can change your tickets. Since the Madrid airport closed on Friday more than 31,000 customers used the “Manage your Booking” section of the website www.iberia.com to change their flying dates
  • Customers affected by cancellations of flights through Sunday, 17 January can change their bookings to dates through 15 March, without charge.
  • Since the snowstorm caused Madrid airport to shut down, Iberia has endeavoured to lend every possible assistance to affected customers, providing lodging to 4,500 people, among many other services.
  • The airline also deployed extra staff in the airport and the call centre, and many employees worked overtime to deal with a very adverse situation.
