Iberia relaunches the Air Shuttle service by adding two new fares

Today sees the launch of the new Iberia Air Shuttle service between Madrid and Barcelona, a service that has been updated to adapt to new types of corporate customers and their needs, with two new fares: the FLEXIBLE Air Shuttle, which offers all the advantages of the traditional Air Shuttle, at a fixed price. And the COMFORT Air Shuttle fare, which offers key services at a more competitive price, depending on how far in advance the purchase is made. 

These two new fares are added to the existing Business Air Shuttle Fare, which remains unchanged.

Flexible Air Shuttle Fare

The Flexible Air Shuttle fare is designed for customers who want to enjoy all the most popular features of the Air Shuttle at a fixed price. This fare includes:

• Checked baggage up to 23 kg
• Seat selection at customer choice, including Economy front seats and XL seats
• Access to Fast Lane security control
• Priority boarding
• Free change at any time, without penalty or payment of fare difference
• Ticket exchange for no-shown passengers
• Refunds allowed, free of charge
• Open ticket included
• 1 additional Avios to be added to the Iberia Plus balance

The price of the FLEXIBLE Air Shuttle Fare is €219 each way for a round trip.

COMFORT Air Shuttle Fare

This fare is designed for customers looking to enjoy key features at a more affordable price, which varies depending on when the purchase is made. It includes:

• Exclusive customer service desks at the airport
• Access to Fast Lane security control
• Priority boarding - Group 2 
• Seat selection, including Economy front seats and standard ones 
• Free changes on the day of the flight to fly the same day
• Changes allowed, one day prior departure paying the fare difference
• Refund allowed with €45 fee 
• 1 additional Avios to be added to the Iberia Plus balance

The price of this fare ranges from €149 to €199 per trip.

Arrive and Fly

The Madrid-Barcelona route is Iberia's main domestic route, connecting both cities with up to 14 daily flights each way, with flights taking off every 30 minutes during peak hours, and every hour during the rest of the day. The service covers all time slots, from 6:45 am until 09:35 pm, adapting to all customers’ needs.

The Iberia Air Shuttle offers an exclusive area at the Madrid and Barcelona airports where customers can check in and obtain their boarding passes at the new self-service check-in kiosks.  

In Madrid, the Air Shuttle has a new 25sqm area, with two conventional check-in desks and two self-service kiosks, adapted for customers who use wheelchairs. It also features information screens showing seat availability for the next flights to facilitate changes. Its location is exceptionally convenient, as it is between the two fast lanes currently offered to Air Shuttle customers, the Fast Track for Business customers and the Fast Lane, for customers travelling in Economy class.

In addition, at both El Prat and Madrid-Barajas airports, these counters, the security control, and the VIP lounge are located close to the Air Shuttle boarding gates, allowing customers to arrive at the boarding gate just 15 minutes before their flight departs.

50 years connecting Madrid and Barcelona

The Madrid-Barcelona Air Bridge just celebrated its 50th anniversary and is one of the most emblematic transport services in Spain. Since its inauguration, it has played a key role in the air connection between the two most important cities in the country, facilitating the movement of millions of passengers and contributing significantly to the economic and social development of both regions.

 

On 4 November 1974, the first Air Shuttle flight took off, operated by a Boeing B727, christened “Aragón”. In its initial period, the Air Bridge operated 13 daily flights in each direction, without bookings, and another 4 with bookings. Flights were operated every hour, with extra flights during peak hours.

In 1999 the Air Bridge celebrated its 25th Anniversary by naming a Boeing B757 “Puente Aéreo” [Air Bridge]. The mayors of both cities at the time – Jose María Álvarez del Manzano and Joan Clos - posed for the media on the plane.
