Planning a trip to Norway? Our staff recommends their favourite places

Our employees are passionate about travel. Many times for work, and many others for pleasure, they move to our more than 100 destinations in Europe, America, Asia and the Middle East. Do you want to know what are their favourite places and recommendations?

 

Silvia Elipe is in charge of relations with travel agencies so they can offer their customers the best options for travelling to any of the airline's destinations. She visited Norway in advance of Iberia's new direct flights to the country: the airline has begun flights to Bergen from 1 June and to Oslo from 8 June. Here are her recommendations.  

 

BERGEN

A stroll: Visit Bryggen harbour district -a Unesco World Heritage Site - to look at its lovely, colourful wooden houses and to travel back in time by strolling its mediaeval streets.

The best views: Take the funicular to nearby Mount Fløyen to enjoy  views of the city from above. Unbelievable. 

Something good to eat: I recommend eating fish in the city center, where you'll be able to try local products. The wild salmon is exquisite.

 

OSLO

A stroll: Visit Vigeland Sculpture Park in west Oslo, with its 212 bronze and granite sculptures representing different stages in life and human relationships. 

A museum: The Nobel Peace Center, located in a former train station. It is in Oslo that the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded every year on 10 December.

If you go with your family: Check out the Fram Museum. You'll see the world's strongest wooden ship, which took part in three expeditions, one of which was to the South Pole, led by the famous explorer Amundsen, in 1911.

You can't miss: The Opera House by the fjord.  Its design was inspired by an iceberg emerging from the sea. Visitors can walk on it and even go up to the roof. 

Highly recommended: Norway in a Nutshell, Norway's most popular excursion, can be taken from Bergen or Oslo. You can enjoy a cruise through the Sognefjord and explore the picturesque village of Flåm, where you can take the train to Myrdal, a 20km trip along the steepest railway track in the northern Europe.
