  • In July, the first 20 pilots graduating from the Iberia Cadetes programme, launched in August 2019, will join the airline
  • And, starting in October, another 20 technical crew members will join Iberia
  • In addition, through the Iberia Cadetes programme, Iberia will cover the 50% of the cost of its future pilots training
  • With this initiative, Iberia seeks to employ the most qualified professionals, as well as encourage young people to consider the pilot profession by helping to fund candidates’ training

In July, Iberia will welcome its first 20 new pilots since the outbreak of the pandemic, in order to meet the increase in capacity that the airline expects for the peak summer months. And, from October, another 20 pilots will join the airline too, all of whom trained at the Flight Training Europe school in Jerez.

“The arrival of new pilots in Iberia is very good news, the best sign that we are flying towards recovery. In addition, our collaboration with FTEJerez through the Iberia Cadetes programme guarantees that we are getting the professionals with the best skills for the future of Iberia”, said Rafael Jiménez-Hoyos, Production Director at Iberia.

The technical crew members who will join next month are the first from the Iberia Cadetes programme, which the airline launched in July 2019, and who had seen their start at Iberia postponed due to the pandemic.

In addition, Iberia has reopened the application process to enroll in Iberia Cadetes, its training programme for new pilots, which offers financing options and which the airline launched in 2019 in order to get the best-qualified professionals in the industry.

Iberia Cadetes also promotes the pilot profession among young people, helping them to finance their training under very advantageous conditions that allow them to develop their vocation.

Once they complete their training, Iberia´s compromise is to help those students to join the labour market by working in one of the Group Iberia airlines and they can also begin to pay back Iberia's contribution to their training.

Óscar Sordo, CEO of FTEJerez, said, “For FTEJerez it is a source of pride that Iberia continues to trust us to train its next generation of pilots, and this is another example of the industry recovery after the pandemic. This new call for applications is undoubtedly a sign of the success of the Iberia Cadetes programme and reinforces our relationship with the airline, which began in 2017.”

FTEJerez has been the first school to participate in the Iberia Cadetes programme. The airline and school jointly select the candidates that will take part in a training programme that allows them to obtain their ATPL air transport license, with Iberia funding 50% of the programme, interest free. The airline also participates in the training of the students, assessing their progress and performance.
