Iberia Sponsors Sorolla Exhibition ad London’s National Gallery

Exposición de Sorolla en la National Gallery

  • The show of works by the Spanish painter Joaquin Sorolla (1863-1923) opens today and closes in July
  • Iberia’s involvement is part of its #Talentoabordo project, promoting Spanish culture in the nearly 50 countries served by the airline.

The uncanny depiction of light by Spanish painter Joaquin Sorolla will flood the National Gallery starting today and until the exhibition, sponsored by Iberia, closes in July.

Sixty paintings including landscapes and portraits executed in Spain by the Valencia-born master l are now on display at Britain’s most popular art museum, the fourth most visited in the world.

The haunting lifelikeness of Sorolla’s portrayals of Spanish people and scenery placed him amongst the greatest as well as the most “Spanish” painters of his age. As an ambassador of Spanish culture wherever it flies, “Iberia wants to publicise a painter of Sorolla’s calibre, and Spanish culture and talent in general,” according to Iberia’s Brand & Marketing Manager Gemma Juncá.

Iberia’s sponsorship of the exhibition comes within the framework of the airline’s  #Talentoabordo project which is intended to support, publicise, or directly carry out a variety of Spanish cultural initiatives in the nearly 50 countries to which it flies.

In the first quarter of this year the airline’s #Talentoabordo project has led it to mark the second centenary of Madrid’s Prado Museum by naming one of its new Airbus A350s “Museo del Prado” and showing works from the museum’s collection on its aircraft and in its VIP lounges. Iberia is also sponsoring the Festival of Women’s Cinema, and took part in the Madrid Design Festival, the Royal Flamenco show, and in this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Madrid.

In addition to its sponsorship or active involvement in such projects, the airline promotes traditional and contemporary Spanish culture in all its variety through its in-flight entertainment programme and its magazines Ronda Iberia and Excelente.
