THE BEST VIEWS
The Barolo Palace, located between the Obelisk on 9 de Avenida Julio and the Plaza de Mayo, where the Casa Rosada is located. Its design was inspired by Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy, and its lighthouse and viewpoint rise 100 metres and offer stunning city view.
A STROLL
Watch the sunset in Puerto Madero, which you can snap from the Puente de la Mujer, designed by Santiago Calatrava. Or spend the day in Caminito. Its fun vibe inspired the creation of the tango that bears its name. If you’re a football fan, visit the nearby Boca club stadium.
A CULTURAL STOP
Get to know the heart of the Teatro Colón, one of the world’s most beautiful theatres. Its rooms and acoustics are impressive. If you can’t get to a performance, book a guided tour and skip the queue.
SHOPPING
Central and pedestrianised Calle Florida brings together the spirit of Buenos Aires in its shops, stalls and restaurants. It’s home to the mythical Galerias Pacifico, a shopping centre with exclusive brand stores in an 1894 Neo-Renaissance building.
DON’T MISS
Ateneo Grand Splendid, the largest bookstore in Latin America, opened in Recoleta in 2000. Its early-20th-century interiors – dating back to when it was a theatre – have been preserved virtually intact. The stage serves as a bar. Its domes and frescoes created in 1918, after World War I, are painted like a sky and represent peace.
