Iberia Delivers First Shipment of COVID-19 Vaccine to the Dominican Republic

  • British Airways brought the shipment from India, and Iberia picked it up in London to take it to Santo Domingo via Madrid.

  • On Wednesday it will fly another shipment to El Salvador.
  • Iberia has delivered a total of 30 shipments via its Madrid hub.

 

Last night Iberia flight IB6501 landed in Santo Domingo with its first shipment of COVID-19 vaccine to the Dominican Republic.

IAG Cargo, which is in charge of all air freight carried by IAG group airlines, brought the shipment via British Airways from Mumbai to London. Iberia picked it up there for transshipment via Madrid to the Caribbean nation, landing after 20:00 h. on Monday night..

The 110 kg shipment was Iberia’s firt to Latin America. Tomorrow, 17 February, it will take an identical shipment to El Salvador.

Iberia’s 27 vaccine shipments via Madrid

Since 28 December, Iberia ahas made a total of 27 flights carrying COVID-19 vaccine, chiefly from Amsterdam and Brussels, to destinations in Spain.

Iberia’s Madrid hub is now the largest in southern Europe for transshipping medicines. 

Both the Madrid cargo terminal and Iberia airport handling staff have been awarded Good Distribution Practices (GDP) certification for handling and storing medical items for human use.

Since 2019, IAG Cargo, responsible for all air freight operations by IAG group airlines IAG, has offered its “Constant Climate!” product for handling medicines at the Madrid cargo terminal. It has refrigerated lorries and storage facilities for pharmaceuticals, which are carried in special, secure holds on aircraft.

IAG Cargo has distributed more than one million doses of COVID-19 vaccines around the word, via its cargo terminals in Madrid, London, and Dublin
