Wednesday sees the opening of Madrid’s annual FITUR travel and tourism trade fair. In the words of Javier Sánchez-Prieto, CEO of Iberia, the fair is “a key event we’re attending with high hopes for recovering travel, confidence in flying, joie de vivre, and enjoyable journeys. In addition, we want to value the Madrid hub and connectivity from Spain to recover as a tourist power”.
This year Iberia boasts a 600 sq.m stand made of recycled paper which will be recycled again when the fair closes.
Welcome to Madrid
A replica of Madrid’s famed Puerta de Alcalá welcomes visitors to the stand, just as Iberia welcomes them to the Iberia T4 hub in Madrid airport, its port of connection to the rest of Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia.
Keeping Spain connected to the world was Iberia’s key aim during the pandemic, and is the theme of this year’s FITUR stand.
A giant world map on the floor allows visitors to explore Iberia’s 114 destinations around the world, including this year’s newest ones –Ljubjana in Slovenia, and the Maldives and Azores islands.
Augmented reality enables visitors to travel to some of these destinations virtually, and even take selfies there.
The Path to Sustainability
An imaginative display takes visitors on a tour of the airline’s sustainability measures aimed at achieving environmental neutrality, along with research projects undertaking in partnership with Madrid’s Polytechnic University.
Travel Technology
Health restrictions and other changes occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic have led to more paperwork for travellers. Iberia has developed a number of means to simplify the protocols and to ensure that its customers can be certain they comply with all requirements before they reach the airport, where they can use apps to show their papers with no physical contact. Visitors to the stand can experience these innovations, which include biometric identification for boarding.
Travel with Confidence
Above all, Iberia wants to instill confidence in its customers, and one way of doing this at the stand is to show how the HEPA air filters protect passengers aboard its aircraft.
As in previous years, the Iberia stand is in Pavilion 10, location C-02, northern entrance.
