In coordination with Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iberia has made arrangements for Saturday, 21 March, to operate separate flights to Buenos Aires and Quito, returning to Madrid on Sunday, to repatriate hundreds of Spanish citizens now trapped by the travel bans now in force in Argentina and Ecuador.
Passenger lists tare being coordinated with the respective Spanish embassies and consulates.
In recent days Iberia has made similar repatriation flights to Japan and Senegal. This afternoon a third such flight is departing to Madrid from the Dominican Republic.
Iberia continues to fly to countries with severe travel restrictions, such as the United States, to facilitate repatriations in both directions.
The worldwide coronavirus pandemic involving quarantines and the closing of airspace by many of the countries it serves has obliged the Spanish airline to drastically curtail its flying operations.
However, in coordination with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, it is managing to skirt some of the restrictions in order to repatriate stranded Spaniards abroad and foreign citizens in Spain.
