Six Recommendations To Get Through The Airport Faster

  • Tips to improve Iberia customers’ airport experience

For many, the summer holidays are the highlight of their year, but it is also the busiest time for airports and airlines.

These six tips will help you get through the airport faster:

  1. Contact details: it is recommended to provide your contact details in the reservation. If you do it, we could inform you, in real time, of any last-minute news related to your flight with Iberia. If you have not done it at the time of booking, you can provide it later in “Your flights” or “Manage your reservation” section.
  1. Documents: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some countries, such as Argentina, Chile, and the United States, require specific documentation from travellers. At Iberia, we make this easier for customers with the “Your Documents” service, which allows travellers to ensure their documents are in order prior to their arrival at the airport. More information here.
  1. Online check-in: Our online check-in service allows you to obtain your boarding pass and select your seat up to 24 hours before departure. If you are checking in luggage, it is a good idea to check in online, so that, if you travel within Spain and Europe, you can simply scan the barcode of the boarding pass at the self- check-in machines at counters 850- 859 of Terminal 4 of the Madrid airport, to obtain the luggage tag quickly and easily. More information here.
  1. Arriving at the airport: Arriving at the airport earlier gives you extra time to handle any unforeseen event. If you are checking in luggage, for short-and medium-haul flights the recommendation is to arrive two and a half hours before the departure of the flight, and four hours before departure if you are taking a long-haul flight. If you have no luggage to check in, you should arrive one and a half hours prior to departure for domestic and European flights, and two hours before departure for long-distance flights. More information here.

  1. Check-in counters: We have redesigned the distribution of the counters in Terminal 4 of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport to speed up the check-in process, which is now grouped by geographical area.
  • Counters 780 – 799: Business Class, Customer Service and Ticket Sales
  • Counters 810 – 829: Central America, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and the United Kingdom
  • Counters 840 – 859: Spain and Europe (except for the United Kingdom)
  • Counters 870 – 889: United States
  1. Hand luggage: On Iberia flights, you are allowed to carry one piece of hand luggage and one personal accessory (bag or briefcase). We recommend you always carry important items such as keys, personal documentation, and medicines with you in your bag or briefcase. And remember that electronic devices with lithium batteries cannot be invoiced. More information here.

These services are available to all our passengers free of charge, but we also offer others that allow you to customise your trip even more at a small cost.

From the moment you book your tickets, you can access the advance seat selection to make sure you fly with your travel companions or simply that you travel in your favourite seat. As soon as you book your flight and until you check in online, you can also add extra luggage to your reservation at a cheaper price than at the airport. Lastly, Iberia’s pre-order service, on flights under 4 hours, allows you to order your in-flight meal up to 8 hours prior to departure if you leave from Madrid and 24 hours prior if you are travelling from another of the airports where Iberia operates.
