- Sustainability is the theme of Iberia’s stand and a major pillar of its 2020 strategy.
- The commitment to innovation, digitisation, and transformation are also present in Iberia’s space.
- The leitmotif: “Let’s Reinvent Tomorrow”.
- Visitors to the stand will see a 4-meter-long model of the A350, a Rolls-Royce engine, and even a 3.4-meter-wide runway.
- Virtual experience await the visitor, who overfly Manhattan or immerse themselves in a huge fishbowl to see what a plastic-free ocean would look like.
The annual FITUR international travel and tourism fair opens in Madrid tomorrow, and the Spanish airline Iberia will be represented by a very unusual “stand” --actually a 600 sq. m space-- furnished with structures made entirely of paper, which will be recycled by Ecoembes after the fair closes.
A Sustainability Tour
Sustainability is a major pillar of Iberia's 2020 strategy and the main theme of its stand, which is designed to be seen, touched, felt, and experienced.
- First is the 4-meter-long model of the Airbus A350, Iberia’s latest and most sustainable aircraft, burning less fuel and emitting less C02 that others in its class. Visitors can experience the flexibility of its wings, and admire the light carbon-fibre structure.
- The can also examine a scale model of a Rolls Royce aircraft engine, with turbine blades made of technologically advanced materials that enable more efficient combustion..
- In its effort to curtail the use of plastics, Iberia has removed 68 annual tonnes of disposable plastic containers from its aircraft. A giant fishbowl at the stand is designed to show visitors how to deal with plastic pollution of oceans.
- Less paper aboard. By replacing print media and paper cockpit documentation with e-publications and electronic flights bags, Iberia has removed 600 tonnes/year of weight from its flights, saving fuel and cutting emissions, Visitors to the Iberia FITUR stand can weigh themselves in paper.
- Electric airport vehicles. On the 3.3-meter-wide model runway, visitors can see the improvement in energy use and in emissions arising from the replacement of internal combustion airport ground vehicle with electric ones, along with other innovative new ground equipment
- A piece of the Iberia Wood, the airline’s reforestation project.
