Iberia has started the year as the most punctual airline in the world, according to the ranking done by the international consultancy Cirium.

In January, 87.3 percent of the 14,152 flights operated by the airline arrived on time, placing Iberia at the top of the punctuality ranking among global airlines. In this category, airlines with the highest number of Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs) in the market compete; specifically, they have to be in the top 10 per cent of airlines with the highest ASKs in the world and also operate in at least three regions.

Rafael Jiménez Hoyos, Iberia's Production Director, said: "Starting the year as the most punctual airline in the world is a great satisfaction that highlights the work and effort that Iberia's employees put in every day to ensure that the complex system that allows our planes to take off and land on time works.”

"This is a particularly remarkable milestone, considering that the airline faced operational difficulties in January as a result of the strike by the airline's handling staff," Cirium explained.

Iberia starts the year as the world's most punctual airline, after which in 2023 it will rank as the second most punctual airline in Europe and the fifth most punctual in the world.
