Customers are very happy with Iberia’s new Airbus A350-900s. In a survey after the first full year of operation on the Madrid-New York route they rated it nearly 10 percent higher than its predecessor, with the highest marks for cabin comfort, including the seat configuration and comfort, lighting, and air quality. Perception of seat comfort was up by 3%.
More Comfort
The interior configuration of the A350, with built-in galleys, enabled Iberia to make more room for passengers –wider seats, wider aisles, and more room for hand luggage in all three seating sections.
A draft-free ventilation system with ozone filters completely renews cabin air every two to three minutes, while raising cabin humidity by 11%-16%.
The aircraft features seven independently controlled temperature zones, as well as one panoramic window for each row of seats, and LED lighting.
The Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines powering the A350-900 make it the quietest airliner on the market –another major plus for passengers.
More Fuel Efficiency
The first full year of operation of Iberia’s A350-900s showed a nearly 30% reduction in fuel consumption and exhaust emissions compared to its predecessors of similar capacity.
It also takes about 15 minutes less to fly between Madrid and New York or Buenos Aires.
More Innovation
The state-of-the-art A350 is built from lighter, stronger material, 70% of its airframe being made of carbon fibre, fibreglass, titanium, and aluminium alloy. The paint, applied as an electrostatic powder, is also lighter
The Airbus A350 is operated under Iberia’s “eOperations” system in which paper has been replaced by electronic data on digital supports both in the air and on the ground.
Passengers can enjoy the full range of power and connection ports for their personal electronic devices supplied for every seat, as well as the airliner’s “KU” Wi-Fi system by Panasonic.
In the past year five new A350s have joined the Iberia fleet, a number which will rise to 20 units by the end of 2012. They are now used for direct flights between Madrid and New York, Chicago, and Buenos Aires, and will operate to Bogotá at the end of October.
