Iberia strengthens its presence in New York with a new daily flight to Newark Liberty International Airport

• The first flight between Madrid and Newark will take place on March 29, coinciding with the start of the summer season

• This daily service complements the two flights Iberia already operates to John F. Kennedy International Airport, offering greater flexibility for customers

• During the 2026 summer season, Iberia will offer more than 350,000 seats between Madrid and New York—42% more than in 2025—thanks to this new frequency

• The route will be operated by the A321XLR, the most efficient aircraft in Iberia’s fleet for transatlantic routes and a model for which Iberia was the launch airline

Starting March 29, 2026, Iberia will inaugurate a daily flight between Madrid and Newark Liberty International Airport, coinciding with the start of the summer season in the airline industry. This new flight complements the two daily frequencies the airline already operates to John F. Kennedy International Airport, reinforcing its leadership in New York and offering three daily frequencies to the city. Newark adds a strategic option that provides fast and convenient access to Manhattan, expanding choices for travellers and enhancing the experience in one of Iberia’s most important markets. With this diversification, the airline strengthens connectivity and flexibility for both leisure and corporate customers.

During the 2026 summer season, Iberia will offer more than 350,000 seats between Madrid and New York—42% more than in 2025—thanks to the new daily service to Newark Liberty International Airport. This expansion consolidates Iberia’s position on one of the most in-demand transatlantic corridors and responds to the sustained growth of traffic between Spain and the United States.

Iberia in the United States 

Iberia serves ten destinations in the United States and reinforces its commitment to the North American market with the addition of a daily frequency to Newark. In 2025, Iberia will offer nearly 2 million seats between Spain and the U.S. and an average of 150 weekly flights. This winter season, the Spanish airline will operate two daily flights to New York and Miami; up to two daily flights to Boston and Puerto Rico—routes strengthened by the arrival of the Airbus A321XLR—and three weekly flights to Washington, which has evolved from a summer-only route to year-round service. Iberia also maintains daily flights to Chicago, four weekly flights to Dallas Fort Worth and Orlando, and three to Los Angeles. San Francisco continues as a summer route with three weekly flights from May to September.

This network of nonstop flights, combined with the North Atlantic joint business agreement Iberia maintains with American Airlines, British Airways, and Finnair, provides robust connectivity—400 destinations in more than 100 countries—and diversified options in the U.S.

Flight Plan 2030: new long-haul destinations  

The launch of this third frequency to New York is part of Iberia’s Flight Plan 2030, the airline’s strategic roadmap for the coming years, which includes a €6 billion investment in fleet renewal and expansion—growing from 48 long-haul aircraft to 70—digitalization of services, enhanced customer experience, and increased connectivity between Europe and the Americas.

As part of this plan, Iberia will inaugurate five new routes in the coming months. On October 26, Iberia began flights to Orlando, establishing the only direct connection from Madrid with four weekly frequencies. In the coming weeks, it will also launch two routes in northeastern Brazil: Recife starting December 13 and Fortaleza on January 19, both with three weekly flights. For the summer season, the airline will begin direct flights to Monterrey on June 2 with three weekly frequencies, and to Toronto on June 13 with five weekly flights.

The A321XLR: driving transatlantic expansion 

The Newark service will be operated by the Airbus A321XLR, the aircraft that has transformed transatlantic connectivity with greater efficiency and flexibility. Iberia was the launch airline for this model, which enables long-haul destinations to be served with a single-aisle aircraft, reducing fuel consumption by up to 40% compared to traditional models and offering a premium experience with the new Airspace cabin, LED lighting, and two classes: Business and Economy.
