Today, Spanish airline Iberia has announced the completion of its first flight along a new route from San Francisco to Madrid, and the launch of the only non-stop flight between both cities, cutting flight time by up to two hours each way.
The summer season route, will be offered three times weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until September 28. Flight departure times have been scheduled to allow easy and comfortable connections with 22 additional Spanish cities, 36 destinations in Europe, and four in Africa and the Middle East. These include Barcelona, Asturias, Bilbao, Santander, Seville, Rome, Milan, Venice, Vienna, Lisbon, Porto, Toulouse and Tel Aviv.
“San Francisco is our sixth gateway in the U.S. and Iberia’s flight to Madrid will be the only non-stop route linking both cities,” said Luis Gallego, Iberia’s chairman and CEO. “Our flights will be a good choice for many customers departing from, or travelling to, Spain and other Southern European destinations.”

Iberia, a four-star Skytrax airline and the world’s most punctual carrier in 2016 and 2017 according to FlightGlobal, started flying to the U.S. in August 1954, when it launched its route between Madrid and New York City. In addition to service to and from the Big Apple and San Francisco, it also flies to Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Miami, as well as U.S. Territory, San Juan de Puerto Rico. In 2018, it will offer 1.45 million seats in the U.S. market.
