The “Iberia Wood” Now Growing in Paracuellos de Jarama

Bosque Ibeira
  • Iberia employees accompanied by Executive President Luis Gallego and the entire management committee along with municipal officials planted the first 1,500 trees in the new “Iberia Wood”
  • The “Bosque Iberia” is an indication of Iberia’s commitment to contribute to the well-being of the communities where it works.
  • It is funded in part by the Life Zero Cabin Waste project, aimed at achieving the sustainable management of aircraft cabin wastes.

Iberia employees and senior management along with municipal officials planted the first trees making up the future “Iberia Wood” in the town of Paracuellos del Jarama near the Madrid airport, partly funded by the partners of the LIFE Zero Cabin Waste project.

They planted the first 1,500 treea in a reforestation initiative on an 8-hectare site adjoining airport land. In the next three years the number of trees will grow to 4,000 units, including such native species as bush willows, dogwoods, rosemary, poplars, elms, junipers, holm oaks  and pines, for the enjoyment of people living in Paracuellos del Jarama.

This gesture by Iberia is in keeping with the airline’s commitment to improve the communities in which it works, and to continue to advance in the struggle against climate change.

Sustainable Development Objective 13

The reforestation project also comes within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 13 (“Urgent action to combat climate change”), which the Spanish airline is also pursuing by reducing fuel consumption and exhaust gas emissions, deploying electric ground vehicles, and using renewable energy sources at its installations

Providing some of the funding for the Iberia Wood are the partners in the LIFE Zero Cabin Waste project, namely Ecoembes, Gate Gourmet, Ferrovial, and ESCI-UPF, under which cabin waste on Iberia flights is being reduced and recycled to the greatest possible extent.
