Iberia Stands for Sustainable Tourism

Participamos en el evento Turismo y ODS Fitur 2019

The event was a wonderful opportunity to share with other travel companies the challenges and best practices for sustainable tourism in the framework of the UN 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.

At the meeting, Iberia unveiled its “Life Zero Cabin Waste” project, aimed at reducing cabin waste and recycling 80% of what remains, in keeping with the “SGD12. Responsible Production and Consumption” development goal. Led by Iberia, the project also involves  Ecoembes, Gate Gourmet, Ferrovial, and ESCI-UPF. Once it has been  implemented on all Iberia flights, it will achieve a reduction of emissions equivalent to 4,340 tonnes of CO2 per year.

The separation of waste on board and its subsequent collection and processing is now standard practice on short- and medium-haul Iberia flights, and, in 2019, it is to be implemented on long-haul flights The results so far have been very positive, and both crew and passengers are showing a high level of environmental awareness.
