Nearly 250 Volunteers from Iberia Join Fight Against Covid-19
- The Spanish airline has launched a volunteer programme to enable its staff to lend their skills to groups involved in the struggle against the pandemic
- These groups include the Spanish Red Cross, The Spanish Federation of Food Banks, and two Iberia-backed NGOs, the relief organisation Mano a Mano, and the disabled care group Envera.
Since the outbreak of this health crisis, Iberia has launched a number of initiatives to lend its weight to the fight against Covid-19, including repatriation flights, cargo flights to pick up medical supplies, donations of material to hospitals, etc., all of them with the enthusiastic cooperation of employees.
At the same time, Iberia has organised a programme for its temporarily furloughed staff to work as volunteers with groups that are on the front lines if the struggle against the coronavirus pandemic.
- Spanish Red Cross. The elderly are especially vulnerable to the new virus, and many of them live alone and have little support. Iberia employees will work in the Red Cross telephone support programme.
- Spanish Food Bank Federation. Food insecurity is another consequence of the pandemic, and Iberia volunteers will help with the pickup and delivery of donations.
- Mano a Mano. Iberia’s employee-backed emergency relief organisation is collecting a variety of materials needed by hospitals, residential care facilities, and individuals affected by the pandemic. Volunteers will assist in collecting and organising donated goods.
- ENVERA. This NGO was founded to provide care and jobs to the disabled, and the pandemic has idled its workshops and left it understaffed, Iberia volunteers can help fill the gaps, cooperate in the daily radio programme that is produced by and for the disabled, and help to raise funds for the organisation.
Nearly 250 Iberia employees from every department have signed up to work as volunteers.
