A pleasant surprise awaited passengers aboard today’s Iberia flight IB3108 from Madrid to Lisbon. At cruising altitude of 10,000 feet, Venezuelan singer Nella stood up to perform her latest song, “Voy”. [“I’m going”], accompanied by Spanish composer/producer Javier Limón.
Passengers were given copies of Nella’s latest CD and a special edition of the Iberia in-flight magazine Ronda.
To mark the delivery last year of Iberia’s first Airbus A350, Javier Limón wrote the song “Volando” [“Flying”], an upbeat ditty with a chorus of voices from many of the countries to which the Spanish airline flies.
To promote the song and Iberia, and to celebrate music, talent, and cultural exchanges, the airline is sponsoring a series of concerts at Iberia destinations around the world.
The “Volando Tour” has already staged performances in Panama City, Boston, and Havana, and it will be coming soon to Madrid, Mexico City, New York, and Tokyo, followed by other cities.
A camera crew is documenting these performances and their venues for a documentary film which will be shown on Iberia flights later this year. It will include fragments of the concerts given by Casa Limón in Madrid Zarzuela theatre on 7-8 June, featuring artists who record under Javier Limón’s label, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, and who include Pitingo, Ainhoa Arteta, La Mala Rodríguez, Kiki Morente, Diego del Morao, and Nella.
The “Volando Tour” is part of Iberia’s #Talentoabordo project in which the airline is promoting Spanish and Latin America culture in the nearly 50 countries it serves.
“Talent, along with drive and affinities, is one of the primary values associated with our brand,” explains Gemma Juncá, Iberia’s Brand & Marketing chief. “Fashion, cinema, theatre, music, sport, gastronomy, photography, and art are some of the disciplines that best represent our country, and we see one of our roles as that of ambassadors of Spanish culture.”
