Iberia launches the Premium Economy Class in South Africa

  • The airline’s flights from Johannesburg to Madrid will be operated by an A330-300 featuring three cabins from April 2019.
  • Iberia’s Premium Economy Class offers more room between rows, wider seats, and 12” entertainment display screens.

Iberia will be launching its new Premium Economy Class on board of its South African flights soon. Starting next April, and until the end of October 2019, customers will be able to fly in this new cabin on Iberia’s flights on the route Johannesburg-Madrid.

The new, separate seating class is already available on the Spanish airline’s flights from Madrid to Bogota, Boston, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Lima, Mexico City, Miami, New York, Panama City, Quito, Santiago de Chile and Sao Paulo.

As part of the launch in South Africa, Iberia offers a return flight in Premium Economy class from Johannesburg to Madrid starting at 16,992 ZAR for bookings made until the 23rd of September 2018 and for flights from April to the 31st of July, 2019.  

More Comfort, Space, and Luggage

Features of the new Premium Economy class include the following:

  • 20% more separation between rows (94 cm vs. 78.7 cm in Economy)
  • Wider seats (48 cm vs. 43 cm in Economy)
  • 40% more seatback recline (7” vs. 5” in Economy)
  • Adjustable headrests and reclining footrests
  • 12” full HD screens (vs. 9” in Economy), noise-cancellation earphones, and connection points for personal electronic devices.
  • Exclusive in-flight service: complimentary welcoming drink, special menu, table linen, and personalised toilet kit.
  • Larger luggage allowance: two check-in pieces instead of one, priority in boarding and leaving the aircraft, and special check-in counters at the Madrid airport.

Iberia’s Premium Economy Class offers South African customers more choice when travelling to Europe. The airline’s new cabin is designed for Economy Class passengers who are willing to pay a little more for more comfort and additional services in the air and on the ground.

Iberia resumed its operations from Johannesburg to Madrid in August 2016 with three flights a week. From August to December 2017, it carried 10.45% more than the same period the year before. 71% of Iberia customers on these flights are connecting passengers. Among the main cities feeding this route are Lisbon, Barcelona, Porto, London, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Paris.
