Cuba congratulates Iberia on the 70th anniversary of its first flight to Havana

  • The Spanish airline first touched down in Havana on 21 April 1949.
  • Iberia’s Chairman and CEO, Luis Gallego, will arrive in Cuba on Thursday aboard the Airbus A330/200 named for the Cuban capital for meetings with Cuba’s Tourism and Transport ministers.
  •  Among other events, the airline will host a meeting with Spanish companies established in Cuba, give a private showing of the documentary film “Cuba Crea” [“Cuba Creates], and sponsor a concert marking the 500th anniversary of Havana’s founding

 

Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel and the Cuban and Spanish Ministers of Tourism met with Iberia executives at FitCuba, the island nation’s travel and tourism fair which will remain open until 11 May in Havana.

This year, Iberia is celebrating the 70th anniversary of its first flight to Cuba, and yesterday it presented the Tourism Ministers of Cuban and Spain with photographs showing the landing in Havana in 1949, as a token of Iberia’s support for tourism and good relations between the two countries. 

Iberia executives also took part in a meeting of leaders of Spanish companies operating in Cuba, where they also met Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who expressed his thanks to Spanish companies for their contributions to the development of the island’s tourism industry.

In addition to its stand at this week’s FitCuba Tourism Fair, Iberia has organised several events in Havana to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the 1519 founding of the city of Havana.

Iberia’s Chairman and CEO, Luis Gallego, is due to arrive on Thursday on board of “La Habana”, Iberia’s Airbus A330/200 named for the Cuban capital. He will meet with Cuba’s Ministers of Tourism and of Transport.  

Other events organized by Iberia during the week are a meeting with leaders of Spanish companies operating on the island along with Cuba’s Ministers of Tourism and of Transport, a private showing of the documentary “Cuba Crea” [“Cuba Creates”], and a concert.
