Raquel Barbachano works in flight supervision and slot management (take-off and landing permissions at the different airports) at Iberia's Operations Control Centre. She recently visited Genoa, which is to become an Iberia destination in a few days. Here are her recommendations for visitors:
The best views: From the Spianata Castelletto. Take the Art Nouveau lift, and get a magnificent panoramic view of the city.
A museum: Galata Museo del Mare, the greatest museum of the history of Mediterranean navigation.
Shopping: The best shopping area is between XX Settembre and Via Roma streets, where you'll fine the most exclusive shops. Don't miss a visit to Italy's oldest confectioners, Pietro Romanengo Fu Stefano (founded in 1780).
Delicatessen: A visit to Genova isn't complete without tasting the local pesto noodles, the focaccias, and the farinata (Genovese chick pea tart). Simply delicious!
Travelling with children? Don't fail to visit Euope's largest aquarium at the old port (Porto Antico) and then take a boat to see the colourful villages of Le Cinque Terre.
Not to be missed: A stroll down Strada Nuova, featuring numerous Renaissance mansions and museums, followed by a meal at any trattoria near the Piazza dell´Erbe.
