Ignacio Valeros, manager  of e-business at iberia.com, says he’s certain Madrid is the most beautiful city in the world, and that’s a good thing because most of Iberia’s flights land and take off there. Read on  for Nacho’s favourite spots...

A walk: From the Plaza del Sol via Arenal Street and Ópera Street to the Royal Palace, finishing up in the Sabatini Gardens and the Campo del Moro surrounding the palace, which is a very special place, extremely romantic and filled with serenity and peace.

Eat: Roast chestnuts in winter. The famous squid sandwich in Atocha or the Plaza Mayor. Hot chocolate with churros at San Ginés for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

A shopping trip: Take Fuencarral Street down from Tribunal to Gran Vía and turn on to Plaza Callao via Preciados. If it’s Sunday, visit the Rastro flea market.

Best museum: El Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen would be the best in any other city, but Madrid has all three. If you still have time, there’s the Sorolla Museum.

The best views: Sunset from the Temple of Debod. The terraces of the Círculo de Bellas Artes, the Palacio del Correos and the cable car are also spectacular.

With family: Enjoy a fantastic family outing at the new Madrid Río or the historical Buen Retiro Park with its exhibitions in the Crystal Palace, concerts in the bandstand, street theatre and boat rides on the lake.
