Iberia’s Washington DC Route reinforces Transatlantic JBA

  • Starting on 1 May Iberia will fly five times weekly between Madrid and the US capital
  • Washington DC is covered by the Joint Business Agreement (JBA) amongst Iberia, American Airlines, British Airways and Finnair, who next summer will add eight new routes next for their customers
  • This summer, the four airlines together have scheduled direct flights on 105 routes across the North Atlantic, with more than 1,000 return flights each week

On 1 May Iberia will launch its new Madrid-Washington DC route with excellent connection in Madrid to/from other Iberia destinations. The US capital is the seventh US city to be served by Iberia, after New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. 

The Spanish airline will make up to five direct flight from Madrid to Dulles Airport, using A330-300s carrying up to 292 passengers --29 in business, 21 in premium economy, and 242 in economy. 

Iberia expects the new route to meet growing demand for business and premium travel between the two capital cities, while promoting sightseeing and cultural tourism in both directions. 

In the 2020 summer season Iberia will offer a total of more than 68,000 seats on the route.

Other Plans for North America

Iberia’s new Madrid-Washington DC route comes within the frameworks of the JBA with American Airlines, British Airways, and Finnair for North Atlantic routes.

Here are the eight new routes available to customers of the four JBA airlines this coming summer: 

-    Madrid-Washington, operated by Iberia 
-    London/Heathrow-Portland, just announced by British Airways
-    Budapest-Chicago/O’Hare, operated by American Airlines 
-    Prague-Chicago/O’Hare, operated by American Airlines 
-    Krakow- Chicago/O’Hare, operated by American Airlines
-    Philadelphia-Reykjavik, operated by American Airlines
-    Paris/Orly-Las Vegas, operated by Level 
-    Paris/Orly-Boston, operated by Level 

The four airlines together have scheduled direct flights on 105 routes across the North Atlantic, with more than 1,000 return flights each week.
