We Bring Vaccines to Spain on Scheduled Flights

Transporte vacunas
  • A shipment of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine reached Madrid last night on a scheduled Iberia flight from Brussels. It was then transshipped to the Canary Islands on an Iberia/IAG Cargo freight aircraft.
  • The vaccines are now in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

A new shipment of vaccine is now in Spain. Iberia was the first airline to carry it, since previously it was shipped in special road vehicles, helicopters, or military aircraft.

The pallets, weighing 66 and 69 kg., reached Madrid last night at 22:00 h. on Iberia’s scheduled flight IB3205 from Brussels. It was carried in a refrigerated hold.

With a police escort the pallets were immediately taken to refrigerated facilities in the cargo terminal. Later they were placed aboard an Iberia freighter for cargo flight IB9011 which took off at 04:00 h., arriving at 06:00 h. local time in Las Palmas on Gran Canaria Island, where one pallet was unloaded. The freighter then proceeded with the other to Santa Cruz on the island of Tenerife, where it landed at 07:50 h.

Last spring Iberia made nearly 100 flights to China to pick up PPEs and other medical supplies for the Covid-19 outbreak. Now the airline is prepared to deliver the vaccine wherever it is needed, thanks to its existing “Constant Climate” facilities and protocols for carrying pharmaceutical products at any temperature in special refrigerated airport ground vehicles, cold storage in cargo terminals, and refrigerated aircraft hold compartments.
