During this year’s FITUR travel industry trade fair in Madrid, the Spanish airline Iberia and Spanish tennis star Rafa Nadal have announced an agreement under which Iberia will facilitate travel by students enrolled in the “Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar” tennis academy in Nadal’s home town of Manacor on the Spanish island of Majorca.
The high-performance school, catering both to juniors and to up-and-coming professionals, was founded in 2016, with the sponsorship of the largest Spanish teleco, Movistar.
In a statement, Nadal said “I’m grateful to Iberia for its confidence in the academy. For us this is a key alliance, and I trust it will last for many years. I know how important it is to have the support of a company like Iberia, which will enable our players to travel to competitions around the world to pursue their dreams. With Iberia we share many values that we try to instil in our students.”
Iberia’s Corporate Manager Juan Cierco said, “We’re very happy with this alliance. Rafa Nadal represents everything that Iberia admires and we share with him such values as hard work, commitment, the desire to excel, and drive, so necessary during this recovery. In addition, Rafa Nadal is one of Spain’s greatest ambassadors to the world, while for 90 years Iberia has carried the flag for our country everywhere we fly.”
The sponsorship agreement is part of Iberia’s ongoing “Talent Aboard” programme, in which the airline lends its support and cooperation to numerous initiatives, promoting Spanish culture in the air and at its destinations around the world.
