The additional flights are aimed at improving connectivity between Uruguay and Iberia’s 90+ European destinations. To mark the increase, promotional fares starting at 626USD for a return flight in Economy* are being offered, and flights can be changed or fares exchanged for vouchers under Iberia’s flexibility policy.

Iberia’s Latin America Sale Manager Víctor Moneo commented, “After a difficult year and a half, we are delighted to raise from three to five the weekly total of flights between Spain and Uruguay. This year marks the 75th anniversary of our service to Montevideo which began in 1946. We hope that this increased capacity will help reactivate demand and that soon it will return to pre-pandemic levels.

*Departing by 24 September and returning by 19 October

The Madrid-Montevideo route was the first on which Iberia passengers could use the new  IATA Travel Pass

On 7 April Iberia became the first European airline to launch the new digital IATA Travel Pass for use between Europe and Latin America, choosing Madrid- Montevideo for the initial trial.

Iberia is betting on technology to create a safe environment and help reactivate the air travel industry. Contactless applications such as the IATA Travel pass are making the travel experience both safer and more fluid.

The Travel Pass allows for the digital storage, management, and verification of passengers’ Covid-10 test results and will soon handle vaccination certificates as well. Learn more about this here
