Roberto works in the ramp assistance unit at Ibiza Airport as a chief agent and trainer. He arrived on the island in 2005, and now considers himself an adopted son and is completely enamoured with it.
THE BEST VIEWS: Torre des Savinar, better known as the Pirate Tower, was used as a watchtower and is undoubtedly one of the island’s most spectacular places. From this viewpoint located in the Cala d’Hort Natural Reserve, you can see the islets of Es Vedranell and Es Vedrà.
A STROLL: Wander through Dalt Vila, a historic walled centre in the city that’s been declared a World Heritage Site. Inside its walls are the Ibiza Contemporary Art Museum, the Cathedral of St Mary of the Snows, City Hall, the Can Botino building and Ibiza’s fortress and ramparts.
A MUSEUM: The Puig des Molins’ Monographic Museum, located on a small hill southwest of the Bay of Ibiza, was named after the windmills located on the hilltop since at least the 14th century. It was the place chosen by the Phoenicians who founded the city of Ibiza in the mid-7th century to bury their dead. An urban necropolis was located there throughout antiquity.
DELICATESSEN: Try the bullit de peix, one of Ibiza’s most typical dishes. It’s a fish stew served with potatoes and fisherman’s rice. For afters, order greixonera, one of Ibiza’s most famous desserts.
SHOPPING: The best shopping areas are Paseo de Vara de Rey, the Port and the La Marina neighbourhood. My favourite outdoor markets are Es Canar and the one in Las Dalias.
IF YOU TRAVEL WITH FAMILY: Children will love the Cap Blanc Aquarium, which used to be known as ‘Lobster Cove’, as it was a lobster breeding ground years ago. This sea aquarium is located in a natural cave, and visitors can see Ibiza’s typical marine species. Though small, the aquarium does a fantastic job, since it’s a recovery centre for marine creatures.
DON’T MISS: Visit some of the best coves and beaches: Ses Salines, Cala Salada, Cala Bassa and Cala d’Hort; enjoy the popular sunset at Cala de Beniras while listening to the hippies playing their drums, and enjoy dinner at one of the port’s restaurants.
