Iberia celebrates the second edition of "Quiero Ser", Iberia's program to promote aeronautical professions among young women.

Quiero ser
  • 36 girls from 14 to 17 years old have been able to learn first-hand about professions such as maintenance technician, pilot or aeronautical engineer
  • They visited the CAE flight simulators, the Engine Shop and Hangar 6 where Iberia performs maintenance on its own aircraft and those of more than 100 customer companies.
  • They also talked with Iberia's Engine and Aircraft Maintenance Directors, among others
  • This action is part of Iberia's collaboration with Power to Code as part of its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion plan

"I want to be a pilot and I think this is a very good experience to see if it can really be my place"; "when I grow up I want to be an aerospace engineer because I have always been passionate about engines"; "aviation is a world that has attracted me since I was a child, and I want to be part of it".

These are the strong words of the protagonists of the second edition of "Quiero Ser", the Iberia program that aims to promote aeronautical professions among young women, which has just had its immersion day at the maintenance facilities of La Muñoza, in Madrid.

36 young girls from 14 t o 17 years old have had the opportunity to interact and learn first-hand about many professions related to the world of aviation, some of them traditionally with less female presence, just at a decisive moment in their lives when they must begin to orient their studies towards their future professional career.

These young women visited the flight simulators of CAE, a leading training company in the civil aviation, defense and health markets, where they were able to fly in a real flight simulator, the same one in which the technical crews train. There they were also able to talk, among others, with Iberia's directors of Production and Training and four of the airline's long-haul commanders about the skills needed to become a pilot and the professional career of a female aviator.

Then they visited the Engine Shop, a reference center in southern Europe, where Iberia's Director of Engines explained the activity carried out there and revealed some curiosities about aeronautical mechanics.

And in Hangar 6, Iberia's Aircraft Service Director, together with her team, showed them how the major overhauls of Iberia's aircraft and other client airlines are carried out in this impressive hangar where up to 10 aircraft can be serviced simultaneously in parallel.

This is the second edition of the "Quiero Ser" program, in which, in addition to Iberia, Power to Code has participated, having carried out half of the call among the young women who are part of its platform -the other half have been daughters of airline employees, selected in an internal contest- and also CAE, a company with which the airline has a joint business agreement for the training of its pilots in simulators.

This initiative is part of Iberia's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan, which aims to raise awareness, develop and give visibility to female talent.
