More and more people wish to travel with their pets. To respond to this trend, Iberia has introduced several changes to make the booking process easier for customers travelling with their pets.
From now on, passengers can add their pet to their booking directly through the website without needing to contact the call centre or wait to pay at the airport counter on the day of the flight. With this change, the airline aims to improve the customer experience by providing real-time information on available capacity and enabling travellers to manage this need themselves, reducing last-minute inconveniences.
The rules for transporting pets remain unchanged: each passenger may carry one carrier with maximum dimensions of 45cm x 35cm x 25cm, and the total weight must not exceed eight kilograms. Up to three animals of the same species (dogs, cats, birds or turtles) may travel in the same carrier, and the airline will assign the most suitable seat to passengers travelling with a pet.
How does it work?
This new functionality is available on flights operated by Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum.
Iberia’s website now includes a new selector in the flight search tool (“pet in cabin”), which should be activated when travelling with a pet. Customers can then add one or more animals to their booking and include the corresponding fee among the services purchased for their flight, provided the booking is made at least 48 hours before departure. In addition, adding pets to the booking allows customers to earn Avios.
Some airports, such as Doha, do not allow animals to travel, so these destinations will not appear among the available options if the “pet in cabin” selector is activated. There are also restrictions at some Spanish airports for receiving animals arriving from outside the European Union.
Customers should also ensure before travelling that their pet’s documentation is in order, as it will continue to be checked at the check-in counter in order to authorize boarding.
