Iberia has been awarded ‘Outstanding Food Service by a Carrier for Europe 2024’ at the PAX International Awards. The ceremony took place in Hamburg during the Aircraft Interiors Expo and the World Travel Catering and Onboard Services Expo.
Each year, the readers of the trade magazine PAX International choose the best companies in the industry in seven categories: Outstanding Food Service by a Carrier, Airline Caterer of the Year Best Inflight Duty-Free Program, Best IFE and Connectivity, Best Cabin Interior Passenger Experience/Best Cabin Innovation, Best Seating and Best Lounges.
The high quality of the products used by Iberia and its role as an ambassador for Spanish gastronomy were two of the main reasons why readers selected Iberia. The Spanish airline's menus, prepared by DO&CO, are based on Spanish cuisine and are made using local and seasonal products whenever possible.
‘At Iberia, we are very proud to be a Spanish airline and to be able to spread our culture wherever we fly. Spanish gastronomy is internationally recognised and we want our passengers to be able to taste it as soon as they get on one of our planes. This award proves we are achieving it", says Melanie Berry, Director of Customer Experience at Iberia. ‘I would like to thank all the teams involved in making this possible, DO&CO, our catering provider, the Customer Experience team, who are in charge of designing the menus, and our cabin crews, who are the ones who make our passengers’ journey even more special. Thank you all,’ Berry said.
DO&CO, Iberia's supplier since 2020
In 2020, DO&CO became Iberia's new catering supplier for its ground services, VIP lounges, and on-board, which meant a qualitative leap in the gastronomic offer of the Spanish airline, which has focused its menus on Spanish, local, and seasonal products. The menus are renewed once a month.
On its domestic and European flights, Business passengers, depending on the time and destination of their flight, have a gastronomic offer ranging from breakfast or snacks to lunch or dinner, meanwhile, Economy passengers have the Pre-Order service and the Gastrobar at their disposal.
On longer flights, Business customers have a set menu, which will be breakfast, lunch or dinner, with a choice of different options and a wide selection of beverages. In addition to this service, there will always be snacks, hot sandwiches, chips or chocolates available. In Economy and Premium Economy, the menu consists of a starter and a main course with a choice of two options plus dessert. As a novelty, the Gastrobar service has been incorporated with a selection of savoury snacks, such as chips and pretzels, and sweet snacks, such as chocolates or jelly beans.
