Iberia and Volaris have reached a broad codeshare agreement to increase connectivity between Europe and Mexico.

Thanks to this alliance, customers from Europe will be able to connect with 25 additional destinations in the Mexican interior operated by Volaris, as well as flying from these 25 Mexican destinations to connect with Iberia flights between Mexico City and Madrid.

This greater connectivity will perfectly complement the record capacity that Iberia deployed this year to create a bridge between Europe and Mexico. Specifically, the Spanish airline offers three daily flights, which means over 772,000 seats throughout the year, 17% more than in 2019.

In addition, the route between Spain and Mexico is operated entirely with the A350, the largest aircraft in Iberia’s fleet, with 348 seats distributed in the Business, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins, to meet the needs of each passenger. It is also more efficient and uses 35% less fuel than other similar models.

Under the terms of the agreement, Iberia will add its code to flights operated by Volaris between those 25 national destinations and Mexico City, which will connect with the Iberia route. The goal is to streamline the booking process and ensure operational efficiency, simplifying processes and reducing complexities for both parties.

“With this collaboration agreement we reaffirm our commitment to Mexico, one of our main markets. It allows us to offer better connectivity to all customers who travel to Mexico with Iberia, at the same time as we make it easier for all passengers from Mexico to travel to Europe in a more comfortable and efficient way,” said María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Commercial, Clients and Network and Alliances Development Director.

“By signing this codeshare agreement with Iberia we offer passengers a greater range of options to explore Mexico. This alliance will expand connectivity via Mexico City, reaching 25 national destinations within our network," explained Holger Blankenstein, Executive President of Volaris. “Our goal is to continue offering improved connectivity options, further enriching the travel experience for more people."

The destinations included in this codeshare agreement within Mexico are: Acapulco, Cancún, Chetumal, Chihuaha, Ciudad Juárez, Cozumel, Culiacán, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Huatulco, Ixtapa Zihuatañejo, La Paz, Los Mochis, Mazatlán, Mérida, Mexicali, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Puerto Vallarta, Puerto Escondido, San José del Cabo, Tapachula, Tijuana, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and Villahermosa.

The agreement is still pending approval by the Mexican and Spanish authorities. It is expected that codeshare flights between Iberia and Volaris will be available throughout July.
